Cherby Adam
2010 Recipient
Cherby appears to be a natural leader. He saw a need within his school, the community and addressed it by developing the Intercommunity Leadership Community. This student run group assists other students within the school who are having difficulty adjusting socially or are dealing with emotional issues. Of course, there are guidance departments and adjustment counselors to work with these students, but, Cherby’s peer approach of gentle prodding, and lending a hand and ear, showed these teens that someone within their own peer group cares about their success and the kind of school experience they have. As a result of Cherby’s efforts, these students slowly and steadily have become more confident and able to face the everyday challenges of high school life.
Cherby has demonstrated that he is a compassionate individual with the skills to motivate and inspire change in others. We are proud to award him a scholarship in Mark’s name. We wish him luck in all of his pursuits as he begins the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the Fall.
