2016 Recipient
Dylan Mazzarella of Bridgewater is an exceptional young man who is dedicated to helping others. He has taken Boston College High School’s motto of “forming students into men for and with others” to heart. As president of BC High’s Community Club he has had the opportunity to participate in a variety of school based service projects as well as volunteering in his local community.
As part of the St. Louis Project Dylan and his peers delivered brown bag lunches to homeless individuals weekly after school. Through this project Dylan learned the importance of taking the time to talk to those experiencing homelessness and relaying to them that they are seen and valued.
After participating in the Ignation Solidarity Leadership Conference in Baltimore, Dylan organized a Solidarity Sleep Out on BC High’s grounds. In an effort to raise awareness of homelessness, several students joined Dylan in sleeping in make shift boxes restricting their food intake, and getting up and going to class in the morning. Dylan planned this retreat from beginning to end. He met with campus ministry daily, discussing the concept, goal, and logistics. We commend Dylan on his ongoing dedication to service and wish him success as he continues his education at Fordham University this fall. Go Rams!
