2016 Recipient
Morgan Walker of Burlington is a hard working student athlete with a big heart. While maintaining honor roll grades and playing soccer and futsal throughout high school, she made time to give back to her community by volunteering at the Burlington Food Pantry, Cor Unum Meal Center in Lawrence and coaching youth soccer.
In addition to these activities, Morgan co-founded the Sober Friends program at Burlington High. This organization promotes a healthy drug-free lifestyle and gives students struggling with alcohol or drug use a resource for support. Through her involvement with Sober Friends she has created and executed lesson plans for middle schoolers, teaching them about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. It is no surprise that Morgan aspires to be a teacher in the future. We commend Morgan for all of her efforts and for being a role model in her community. We wish her the best as she continues her education at Simmons College this fall.
