Project Description
Rachel Varley
Rachel’s family gave her a strong foundation of gratitude and helped her develop an awareness of poverty and it’s effects. Through various church and community based activities, she has cultivated a deeper understanding of empathy and the importance of service.
As part of her church youth group, Rachel assisted with raising funds, collecting gift cards, winter outer-wear, and then delivering these wrapped gifts to unhoused individuals in Boston. She also raises funds for Daniel’s Table and makes food deliveries to those who physically can’t get to the pantry. In addition, Rachel volunteers at Joyful Connections, a program for elderly individuals with Alzeimer’s Disease and works during the summer with kindergarten and first graders with intellectual and/or behavioral challenges.
The Mark Bavis leadership Foundation is proud to award a scholarship to Rachel and wishes her the best as she continues her studies at Boston College.
